The Membership

The club can be summarised as a club “with attitude” and we dislike coming second !

We are strong in developing our juniors and we have club rifles and equipment available for this purpose along with expert guidance. Coaching is available and you do not have to be a Commonwealth Games or Olympic aspirant to enjoy target shooting, everyone is welcome.

Many world problems have been solved in the Pirates clubhouse and we regularly hold club BBQ’s after grade competition matches.

Most club members shoot “fullbore” style which uses single shot target rifles of 7.62mm or 5.56mm calibre firing at distances from 300 yards back to 1000 yards. At Malabar the distances are in metres from 300 back to 800.

Some members also participate in the demanding ISSF 300 metre discipline (International Shooting Sport Federation) which requires extreme accuracy at 300 metres and superb equipment. The popular calibre emerging for 300 metre shooting is the 6mm benchrest calibre (6BR).

Fullbore and 300 metre competitors shoot only from the prone position. As such target shooting doesn't require high fitness or, surprisingly, perfect eyesight. Our successful shooters in the club have learnt to combine a consistent shooting position with skilled wind reading and balanced psychology. With regular practise and exposure to competition they have reached the top of our sport. Within these disciplines men and women compete on an equal footing.

Also club some members have also formed the Port Jackson Pistol Club which shoots at regularly Malabar.

The Port Jackson Rifle Club is registered for Target Shooting, Collecting and Hunting.
