Equipment & Costs

The equipment in fullbore target shooting varies with the size of the shooters wallet. Good equipment can be purchased for relatively low cost up to the exotic equipment preferred by the representative competitors.

The ability for individual variation of equipment is extremely high with a variety of rifle actions, stocks and shooting clothing in the club. The target rifles used weigh up to 6.5kg.

The club has a number of good club rifles and shooting equipment available for new shooters. Advice on equipment purchases is freely available from all members, of course you will get lots of different opinions.

Weekly costs are relatively low with Saturday shooting costs at $16 plus ammunition. Recently we introduced an annual shooting fee of $130 which has significantly lowered weekly costs for regular members. Many club members reload their own ammunition which lowers costs further and allows members to ensure consistency and accuracy. Factory ammunition is available from the club.

A typical cost to setup a new shooter might cost up to $2000 and may include some of the following :

2nd Hand Rifle                          $500 to $1000

Shooting Coat                            $330

Sling                                         $70

Glove                                        $60

Spotting Scope & Stand             $400

Shooting Hat                             $25

Earmuffs                                  $30

Shooting Mat                             $100

Of course many items can be purchased along the way with many of the above items borrowed, as the sport grows on the new member equipment is normally acquired as the budget allows. New rifles typically cost between $3000 and $4000. The overall costs would compare well to golf.
